It is said that around 1923, the practice of veiling was very prevalent in Kannauj. Kalavati used to live in Kannauj with her husband. Kalavati’s husband used to be a wrestler. Time passed, Kalavati’s husband was taken in his arms by an illness. After that Kalavati herself handled a small business of sweets, earlier this white looking sweet was known as Gatta sweets. Whom people used to call only Gatta.

People used to come, some used to say sister, some used to say daughter-in-law, some used to say sister-in-law and jokingly demanded Gatte. Gradually people started calling Gatta as Kalavati’s Gatta, after which Kalavati got her picture put on its packaging to increase her business. After that this Gatta became more famous and today along with Kalavati country, this Gatta is also known as famous Kalavati Gatta in foreign countries.
how it is made
This gatta, which is slightly visible in white colour, looks solid and hard in appearance. But as soon as you put it in the mouth, it dissolves completely in a moment like water and gives a feeling of different taste. Sugar syrup is dissolved in milk and dried. While making the batter, cloves, cardamom, rose petals, and nuts are added to it. After drying the solution, it is made by patting it with hands and then raisins, cashews, almonds are applied on it and kevda is used on it for fragrance.
